Kids Music that Won’t Drive You Crazy

Let’s talk kids music, how many times have you heard the same song in a single day? My record currently sits at 53, but with the Disney juggernaut still putting movies out at record pace, it’s only a matter of time until we have another Frozen on our hands.

But seriously, with technology as accessible as it is it seems crazy that we would have to hear the same song over and over and over again. Before we lose our sanity, here are a couple of places to look for some new songs. Kids songs that both you AND your kids will enjoy. Bonus, you won’t feel like leaving the house and locking them in there behind you.

The Dad Crew Approved Kids Music

Big Block Sing Song

This is an animated series of kids song that comes out of Canada (automatically super nice topics). For those of us who grew up with Nickelodeon, you will probably feel like you are watching Face’s much more musical family. They have the same little kid ridiculousness of all the other songs but they constantly change up the genres. Definitely nice to have a change of pace. And, they get bonus points for having a fun animation with each song. Warning: These are crazy catchy and will get stuck in head for days. Check out our current favorite:

Rockabye Baby!

This one is of the nighttime or nap time variety. It is an all instrumental version of some of our favorite songs. This is also a good gift for some of our soon-to-be Dad friends. You can find these CDs (yeah they still make those) all over Amazon. These also double as a good way to help ourselves fall asleep.

Beat Bugs

I know Beat Bugs is technically a TV show, but the music is the main focus of the show and it’s more than tolerable. So, here we are. The show is about a bunch of bugs that live in the front yard of a house. More importantly, each episode is based around different Beatles songs. I will admit, I have never been a huge Beatles fan. Maybe it is just the welcomed change of pace but there is something about this show that makes you really appreciate and enjoy their work. Also, it wasn’t until this show that I realize how many of their songs I already knew the words to. But, just in case you forgot the words, there is a whole sing-a-long section on their YouTube channel. Check it out:

Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson has a large number of songs that are written for kids. He is a good musician and the songs don’t have the obnoxious repetitive sounds of some of the other things we have to listen to. Kids tend to love his music. The bigger bonus, when the YouTube channel decides to skip out of the “kids'” music and into some of his adult stuff – there is no need to worry about what else they may hear!

Overall there is a lot of music out there for our little ones. You may just need to look a little harder than what is constantly shoved in front of us and our kids. So step away from the desire to wear those noise-canceling headphones and show your kids there is something else they can be listening to and enjoying with you.
